Friends, while at the Denver Gem Show, I was absolutely delighted to find these breathtaking, ancient Zion sandstone sculptures from Utah. Naturally sculpted by no less an artist than Mother Nature herself, they are like having miniature, altar-sized replicas of the spectacular giant rock formations that adorn Utah’s world famous national parks. They pulsate with the ancient energy and infinite wisdom of Mother Earth.
These natural Zion sandstone sculptures were formed over 225 million years ago by mineral-filled waters that slowly filtered the compacted sediment layers. Iron oxide, calcium carbonate, and silica served as cementing agents, transforming layers into stone over extended periods of time, and creating the exquisite lines and markings you see on these mini-monuments. It is truly remarkable to think that the Zion sandstone started out as ancient sand dunes, shallow ocean bottoms, and swamp lands.
