What Are Crystal Carvings?

Crystals emit energetic vibrations that impact how you feel, sense, and interact with your environment. Carving or polishing them into certain shapes adds a layer of magic that amplifies, directs, or otherwise enhances their energy. When choosing the shape of your stones, the most important factor is your intention or purpose. Honestly ask yourself what you seek from working with crystals and find a carving that aligns. If there’s a particular carving that you’re drawn to visually, I recommend trusting your intuition – the pull you feel may be a subconscious realization of an unexpressed need. Don’t ignore your instincts! The shapes a crystal can take on are truly only limited by the artist’s imagination, but the following are some of our favorites here at Sage Goddess.

Trust Your Intuition

The cube is a universal sacred shape

Cubes

The cube, or hexahedron, is a universal sacred shape – one of the Platonic Solids. It’s a three-dimensional symbol of grounding and focus. Cubes are associated with the Earth element and correspond with the Root Chakra, but they also honor all four directions and cardinal elements. Cubes create a foundation and consolidate energy. They sit flat, holding their ground, no matter which side they’re placed on. Working with cubes helps you stay rooted, strong, and stable wherever you are.

Flames help you stay connected to your lower chakras and grounded in meditation

Flames

Working with crystal flames helps you stay connected to your lower chakras and grounded in meditation. Flame energy is all about helping you access something deeper and opening something within that may not be accessible to you. As the energy swirls and flows through this flame, twisting and turning in a feminine form, it exits through the flame’s point out into the universe, creating a bridge between the Earth and the higher realms.

Gemstone generators are six-sided towers that keep the vibration high

Generators

Just as their name suggests, gemstone generators generate energy, making them perfect for raising vibrations in your space. These carved crystal towers commonly have six sides and a single terminated point that faces upwards when placed on an altar, helping raise energy from earth to sky, from Root to Crown. They keep the vibration high, which promotes joy, health, love, and prosperity.

The Moon in astrology reflects our desire to nurture, protect, belong, and connect with our roots

Moons

When carved into the shape of the Moon, gemstones call the magic of Luna into your sacred space, powerfully connecting you with your Divine Feminine energy. This shape brings forth healing, compassion, emotional understanding, and intuition. The Moon is the closest astronomical body to Earth, giving it a strong influence over us. The Moon’s gravity pulls on Earth’s oceans, causing tides, and its movement affects our emotions, reactions, and even our bodily cycles. The Moon in astrology reflects our desire to nurture, protect, belong, and connect with our roots. It’s also our mysterious nature, and some call it the home of our heart and soul. The Moon corresponds with The High Priestess in the tarot, who teaches us to explore our subconscious lunar landscape to receive our most profound sense of self and inner wisdom.

Obelisks possess the power of a pyramid with the magic of a generator combined

Obelisks

The obelisk was sacred to the ancient Egyptians, who created it in an effort to lift their pyramids into the sky and bring them closer to God. They were placed in pairs at the entrances to sacred spaces to signal leaving behind the present time and stepping into a new and alternate dimension of reality. Each obelisk was oriented toward the Sun and engraved with hieroglyphs aligned to the four directions.

The obelisk is a beautiful structure consisting of sacred geometrical shapes, including the hexahedron at the base, providing a sturdy foundation and representing the four directions, and the pyramid on top. The Egyptians believed this shape stabilized and raised energy in a powerful way. Obelisks possess the power of a pyramid with the magic of a generator combined, and the result is an extraordinary channeler of balanced energy.

The pyramid has been a sacred symbol across many cultures for millennia

Pyramids

The pyramid is a sacred symbol across many cultures and has been for millennia. It represents the element of fire and creates a natural balance between the physical and spiritual worlds. Pyramids symbolize the union of the trinity and the four directions, creating a vortex of energy that can heal, purify, and magnify whatever you focus your intentions on.

The sphere is an expression of unity, completeness, integrity, and equality

Spheres

We love spheres at Sage Goddess because they radiate energy in all directions – above, below, and toward all four sacred directions. Wherever you place yours, it will fill that entire space with its energy! Perhaps one of the simplest and most perfect of all forms, the sphere is an expression of unity, completeness, integrity, and equality. It’s the most profound and sacred symbol in the universe and contains all the wisdom of creation. It is from the sphere that the other shapes are organized. With the sphere, we are reminded that everything fits together in perfect proportion, and it is the portal that opens you to the workings of nature. One of the best examples of a sphere is Earth, along with all the other planets. Cells and seeds are also spheres.

The shape of the five-pointed star symbolizes Oneness: Spirit plus the four basic elements

Stars

The shape of the five-pointed star symbolizes Oneness: Spirit plus the four basic elements. It’s associated with abundance as five represents the number of prosperity and manifestation. The five-pointed star is also associated with healing and freedom. In the tarot, The Star card represents self-esteem, a fresh outlook, and a vision for a better future. It embodies hope, reminding us that change is always possible. It reminds us that we’re all stars among stars.

Vogels are double-terminated and wide at the top and narrow at the bottom

Vogels

Vogel crystals are named for a very special scientist, Marcel Vogel (1917-1991). Marcel Vogel worked at IBM for nearly 30 years as a researcher and developer and is known for his experiments with raw, terminated quartz crystals. Vogel experienced a lucid dream where he was shown the Kabbalah Tree of Life. This vision inspired him to create a healing wand carved from optically clear quartz. He also experimented with different  numbers of facets – each having a different meaning. The size of the Vogel is not important, but it must be double-terminated and wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. Vogel discovered that when he pointed these crystals at other people, a noticeable amplification of their thoughts and emotions could be detected. At times, people even fell into altered states of consciousness.

A properly cut Vogel crystal is known to grant immediate access to the etheric body, stabilizing it and allowing light to enter from the higher realms. This is a tool to be used on the actual problem areas of the body. Even though we carry physical or emotional trauma in our bodies, a matrix of perfection still exists within us – and Vogels are here to connect you with this state of optimum health and wellness. Vogels take in the energy at the larger receptive end (the feminine side), and then amplify it and transmit it down into the smaller focal end (the masculine side). They act as laser pointers, directing the energy where it needs to go, and are very helpful for removing energy from your auric field.

Double-terminated wands have two terminated points, one on each end

Wands: Double-Terminated

Wands are among the most important tools you can have in your magical collection. They are used for opening and closing circles to create energetic boundaries or containers during ritual or clearing work. Wands are a powerful way to channel energy from you to Source and from Source to you.

Double-terminated wands have two terminated points, one on each end. They act as an energetic freeway, or transmitter, always running energy between the two terminations. You can work with them to channel energy to and from another person, Source, Mother Earth, your ancestors, and on and on. You can imagine the possibilities! To work with yours, visualize it filling with the energy you wish to send or receive. Then, visualize directing that energy to the recipient, which could be you.

Single-terminated wands gather energy through their flat or rounded end and direct it through the terminated point

Wands: Single-Terminated

Single-terminated wands gather energy through their flat or rounded end and direct it through the terminated point. They harness the output of energy, and you can work with them to send that energy to a specific person or object. Single-terminated wands are fantastic for activating crystal grids by calling in energy from Source and directing it to the gridded stones.
