Did you know that in shamanism, the traditional role of women was that of shamans and drummers? It is a little-known fact, yet it is true, with the earliest records dating back 12,000 years ago. If you’re drawn to this shamanic drum and mallet, then I’m certain that there is a part of you that remembers very well when the women used to predominately drum and facilitate ritualistic journey — and is calling for a return to it.
These hand drums are crafted in the traditional style of the Old Ways, wrapped with rope for a sturdy hold in the back, and will arrive to you ready to be played. You can play along to your favorite meditation or shamanic music, or you can play solo as you are called to do.
The deeper magic of this shamanic drum and mallet
Drums have been used in many cultures for centuries and are sacred to many spiritual traditions and practices. I use mine in ritual and to initiate shamanic journey work for others.
The drum is a powerful tool. Traditionally, women would lead ceremonies with the drum for the purpose of fertility and healing. It is said that ritual drums were often painted red to depict a woman’s menstrual cycle, and some drums even had symbols of the vulva drawn on it. And, the earliest historical record of a drummer was a woman — Lipaushiu, a Sumerian priestess c. 3,000 BC. This Shamanic Drum and Mallet is a beautiful reminder of our return to our innate connection to the drum.
