The deeper magic and history of these red Pucará bulls
Traditionally crafted in Pucará, Peru, just north of Puno, these toritos (little bulls) represent a time when the Spanish colonized South America, naturalizing a new animal species – the bull. Bulls would become a staple of tradition and magic to the native Incas. With its four hooves planted firmly on the ground, and its formidable muscularity, the bull brings strength, protection, and prosperity. Contemporary Peruvian culture honors this powerful Earth-element creature as having a great influence on the growth and development of their society. Today, the torito de Pucará is commonly gifted to serve as a protector in the home, and considered especially precious for newlyweds, to invoke fertility and joy.
