When Spanish monks discovered its clearing and healing properties, they named it “palo santo” which means “holy wood.” This palo santo is infused with labdanum essential oil. Labdanum has a glamorous, sexy essence, associated with solar deities and Venus. Labdanum was used to create perfumes in Aphrodite’s Temple and rumored to be the top note in Julius Caesar’s favorite cologne.

Essential oil-infused palo santo is something special, custom-made here at SG. It took us months to cultivate this process – and it’s proprietary! Palo santo is amazing on its own, but it can be hard to light and people often complain that it produces very little smoke. Infused palo santo lights more easily and stays lit longer. This ensures that our palo santo forests are not susceptible to over-harvesting.

Labdanum, called the “perfume of Arabia” by ancients, is one of the most highly valued scents in perfumery. It’s a sticky resin from Mediterranean Cistus, or Rock Rose, shrubs. Goats that graze on these plants get the resin stuck in their hair and it was traditionally collected by combing their beards. Labdanum has a long spiritual history, way back to the Old Testament. Labdanum is mysterious – sedating yet uplifting, and wonderful for meditation and contemplation. It’s also protective and evokes courage and strength.
