White alabaster is a type of anhydrite, which comes from the Greek anhydros, meaning ‘waterless.’ This refers to how it forms through a process of seawater evaporating in sedimentary basins. It has almost the same chemical composition as selenite, except the latter has a much higher water content. The lack of water in it makes it a much more dense and opaque mineral, but with the same uplifting properties of peace and purification.
