Coatlicue was a revered deity in the Aztec pantheon, and was regarded as the earth mother goddess. A patron of childbirth, Coatlicue was also associated with warfare and agriculture, and thought to be the female essence of the god Ometeotl. According to legend, Coatlicue guarded the sacred mountain Coatepec (translated in English as “Snake Mountain”), where she would maintain the shrine. She is represented as an old woman and symbolizes the ancient practice of worshipping the earth. Coatlicue is often depicted in Aztec art as a fearsome figure.
Crystal skulls are said to have been carved over tens of thousands of years ago by an ancient Mesoamerican civilization. It is also said that these skulls are relics from Atlantis. Skulls were a symbol of regeneration and were used to invoke the gods.
