These tumbled black obsidian stones are deceivingly complex, beautiful expressions of volcanic eruptions. Like all obsidian stones, these gorgeous specimens were formed from molten lava that cooled very quickly and had no time to form into glass. What I really enjoy about these stones is knowing how many different variations of this stone exist. They can range from black and softly rounded to bottle green and razor sharp.
The magic of my tumbled black obsidian
Black obsidian is a gentle grounding stone that heals tears and holes in the auric field. Obsidian reminds you of your inner strength and your latent fire. Feeling like you’ve lost the spring in your step? Looking to ramp up your energy cycles? Need a reminder of how beautiful and powerful you are, and that you are capable of accomplishing anything? Black obsidian can help.
Because obsidian stones are highly viscous and polymerized, atomic diffusion is impossible as is the possibility for crystal growth. The obsidian stone is fairly hard at an MOHS 6, and very brittle. So it is not uncommon to find it with fractures or sharp edges. In fact, obsidian has been used historically as a tool for cutting and piercing, made into arrowheads and blades during the Stone Age and used experimentally in the recent past for surgical scalpels. In fact, obsidian plays an important role in Game of Thrones where it’s known as Dragon Glass.
Obsidian can be found in locations which have experienced rhyolitic eruptions, including Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Chile, Greece, El Salvador, Guatemala, Iceland, Italy, Kenya, New Zealand, Peru, Scotland, and the United States.
This listing is for one (1) tumbled piece of black obsidian, about 0.75-1″ in size, which will arrive gift-bagged in organza with a white sage leaf and a card describing the stone’s properties.

Ever since I started carrying this with me… I feel a distance between me and others… an ability to protect myself from being drained. There was this one girl who works the cash register at a place where I shop, and she drained me the first time I talked to her. When I had this on me, it didn’t happen.
