These gorgeous rune rings are full of ancient magic – engraved on 925 sterling silver with the ENTIRE Futhark rune alphabet. How much do you know about runes?
Runes are letters in a set of related alphabets known as runic alphabets, used throughout Northern Europe, Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Iceland from about 150 A.D. to 1600 A.D. before the adoption of the Latin alphabet. They were used for writing, divination, and magic.
The earliest runic inscriptions found on artifacts give the name of either the craftsman or the proprietor, or sometimes, remain a linguistic mystery. The name rune itself, taken to mean “secret, something hidden”, seems to indicate knowledge of the runes was originally considered esoteric or restricted to an elite. Even from their inception, the runes were used in magical, ritual language.
The deeper magic of these rune rings
There are several variants of the runic alphabet, but it’s best to choose one and not mix them. The one we use here at Sage Goddess is Elder Futhark, the oldest of them all, consisting of 24 runes.
Runes serve as guides, helping us become more aware of what is currently happening in our consciousness; bringing more clarity regarding which path to take toward the future.
The rune symbols can be etched into candles for ritual, gratitude, and invocation. They can also be drawn onto various items or places with a specific intention, such as in the car for safety, the home for protection, workplace for prosperity, bedroom for romance, or to enhance the growth of plants.
Runes are also traditionally worn as charms, combining the intention of the rune with the properties of the crystal, stone, metal, or wood into which it’s etched.
